Are you feeling overwhelmed by the ACE requirements? Let us help you! We have suggestions on which courses to take, which courses to avoid, and resources available to help you during registration.

The first step is to look up the Spring Course List, which can be found on the UNL ACES website. This will save you time and will allow you to have your options laid out clearly.

Next, you will need to go through the course listings and pick out what looks interesting. The College of Arts and Sciences' (A&S) Advising Center recommends staying in 100 or 200 level courses if they are outside of your major. Remember, when taking 300 and 400 level courses, you will be studying with majors and minors in the subject, which could be difficult without the appropriate background.

Another suggestion from the A&S Advisors is for CSE students to avoid the visual literature courses for the ACE 2 requirement. These are constructed for students in architecture, journalism, and the visual arts, and might not fit well with your skill set.

Also, when looking at the communication courses, consider taking 150 or 151. These are general writing courses that will complement the CSE major and will hone your research and rhetoric.

Finally, remember that ACE requirements give you a chance to expand your knowledge of other subjects. Pick courses that you will both enjoy and excel in.
