Students, faculty, staff and friends and supporters of the University of Nebraska System are invited to participate in the seventh annual “I Love NU” Week, March 4-8.
“I Love NU” Day is planned for 1-3 p.m. March 6, at the Nebraska State Capitol in Lincoln. The event is an opportunity for individuals to show support for the university and visit with state senators about the work and impact of the NU System’s four campuses. All members of the public are welcome.
The day will begin with remarks from Interim President Chris Kabourek and NU’s four student regents. Attendees will gather in the legislative chamber balcony to be recognized and then will have time to speak with senators in the Rotunda and engage with other university supporters.
As part of the 2024 celebration, participants can enjoy a special ice cream flavor created by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Dairy Store. The ice cream will be available at the Capitol on the day of the event as part of an ice cream social for attendees.
Faculty and staff who attend the event during regular work hours should use vacation or banked/floating holiday time and must receive approval for time off from a supervisor.
Along with the in-person event, supporters are encouraged to participate in virtual celebration days on social media during the week of March 4-8. A complete schedule of events is available on the “I Love NU” Week webpage.
In addition to participating in the scheduled “I Love NU” events, members of the university community can show their support by:
• Reaching out to state senators via email or phone to share their stories and discuss the importance of higher education.
• Signing up to be an NU Advocate to be among the first to know about legislative developments that impact the university and learn about how and when to get engaged; and
• Following the University of Nebraska on Facebook, X and LinkedIn for news and updates and using the #ILoveNU and #NUforNE hashtags when sharing stories of the university’s impact on social media.
