The Holland Computing Center (HCC) is seeking a student to join our team. We are hiring for the following position:
Graduate Student Positions (Research Project)
HCC is seeking a graduate student (any year) to assist with a variety of work in collaboration with the Nebraska Center for Integrated Biomolecular Communication (ncibc.unl.edu). A variety of projects and tasks are potentially available, with selected projects based on applicant skills and interest. Potential projects can include:
• Work on instrument data backup and archiving for mass spectrometry and/or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) facilities.
• Integration of NMR facilities with the Network for Advanced NMR (NAN), a distributed national resource for high-field instruments, knowledge, and data.
• The development and deployment of a workflow for functional evolution of proteins. The project will consist of further work on the existing CPASS (https://cpass.unl.edu) software suite. CPASS is a collaboration between Dr. Robert Powers (UNL-Chemistry) and HCC. The CPASS software and database was developed to facilitate protein functional annotation through the sequence and structure comparison of ligand-binding sites. The immediate task will be the revision and improvement of the workflow which generates the ligand binding site library. This workflow uses the OSG (https://osg-htc.org) as the computational backend.
• Other routine maintenance and IT tasks in support of NCIBC operations.
Qualifications (not all may apply, depending on projects):
• General programming or web design experience.
• General Linux and/or system administration experience.
• Reasonable proficiency with Python
• Familiarity with general scripting (bash/Python/Perl/etc).
• Research computing experience is helpful but not required.
• Experience with bioinformatics is helpful but not required.
Hired students will work closely with HCC staff and have flexible hours. This position may either be structured as an hourly-paid position or a full RA, dependent on student need and availability. Initial project length is 1 year but is potentially renewable. A brief interview is required. Please send questions or interest to Adam Caprez (adam.caprez@unl.edu).
HCC also has additional openings for undergraduate and graduate students. Please see this posting for details.
