Design Studio information session

Design Studio is a year-long project learning experience within the Raikes School. In Design Studio, teams of juniors and seniors partner with sponsoring businesses and government agencies to design and develop real-world, software-based solutions meeting each sponsor’s needs. Students gain architecture, technology, process, project management, teamwork and leadership skills essential in today’s professional development world. Design Studio gives students and sponsors the ability to interact and create innovative software-based solutions, while benefitting from the support of Raikes School faculty and facilities.

The Design Studio class works with local and regional companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Hudl, Mutual of Omaha and many others. The projects go through the entire software development life cycle. These projects vary in subject matter, but all end in an innovative technology deliverable. Students are able to work with numerous exciting technologies including .NET, Java EE, Web Services, iOS, XML, cloud, etc. and get to learn from and collaborate with many experts in the field.

Currently the Design Studio is planning to do between 10 and 14 projects next year with teams made up of five to seven very talented junior and senior students. The experience students would receive through these projects is unmatched from any other class on campus or even in most universities. This is truly a unique and very beneficial opportunity. There are also several options with how Design Studio can fit into students’ academic plans and count toward students’ degrees and graduation.

This information session will be held in the Kauffman Center in the Great Hall which is room 122. There will be pizza and pop provided. RSVP to Jeremy Suing at jsuing@cse.unl.edu or (402) 472-1658.
