The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing is the world's largest gathering of women technologists. It is produced by the Anita Borg Institute and presented in partnership with ACM. UNL's CSE Department sent a group of 16 students and 2 professors to the event which was held in Phoenix.

The featured speakers were Shafi Goldwasser, RSA Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT; Maria Klawe, President of Harvey Mudd College; Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer; Arati Prabhakar, Director Defense of Advanced Research Projects Agency.

A career fair and various 101 sessions pertaining to Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) were included in the celebration.

Junior Rebecca Horzewski said, “While the informational sessions made up the heart of the conference, there were a number of other components of GHC that made it a well-rounded life experience. The career fair, networking, and extra events were enjoyable, and traveling with other women in CSE at UNL was a valuable bonding experience. The keynotes and invited speakers were very inspiring. I also enjoyed the palm trees, weather, and architecture of Phoenix."

The 16 students who attended the event were nominated by CSE faculty.

Sophomore Rebecca Dahlman said, “My favorite part of the event was meeting so many incredible women in computing. It was inspiring seeing how many intelligent women are in the field of computer science and how much they have achieved.”
