The University of Nebraska State Museum's February Sunday with a Scientist program for children and families will take a closer look at flying robots -- unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The program will take place on February 15 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Morrill Hall.
Assistant professor Dr. Carrick Detweiler and professor Dr. Sebastian Elbaum of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will showcase the cutting edge capabilities of aerial robots being developed in UNL's NIMBUS Lab. Children and families can view live demonstrations of flying robots, build their own mini-paper helicopters, and learn how quad-rotor robots are used in agronomy. The scientists will explain how these flying robots assist with collecting water samples, monitor crop growth, plus more.
The NIMBUS (Nebraska Intelligent MoBile Unmanned Systems) Lab is an exciting place where the latest research and technology in software and systems engineering, robotics, and sensor networks converges to develop more capable and dependable UAVs.
