Get to know the new CSE faculty: Justin Bradley, Brittany Duncan, Sheng Wei, and Qiben Yan.

Justin Bradley is from Ann Arbor, Michigan. He does research in control and optimization of cyber-physical systems primarily in aerospace platforms. Professor Bradley has worked with small-unmanned aircraft, and nano satellites (CubeSats) for a number of years now. His hobbies include motorcycling, sports, playing piano, running, and reading. Professor Bradley also flies gliders and almost has his license for it.

Brittany Duncan is originally from Atlanta, GA, but moved here from College Station, TX. She has a B.S. from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University, both in Computer Science. Her research interests are in Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) and she is teaching a seminar on HRI this semester. Next semester Professor Duncan will be teaching Human-Computer Interaction. She is a licensed private pilot and when she isn’t working she enjoys walking her pug and dachshund with her husband.

Sheng Wei is originally from China. He went to Los Angeles to pursue his PhD at UCLA in 2008. Upon receiving his PhD in 2013, he moved to San Jose, California and worked at Adobe Research. He is currently teaching and researching hardware security, including preventing hardware physical attacks, as well as using hardware-based technologies to enhance system and software security. When Professor Wei is not teaching, he enjoys jogging and watching soccer games.

Qiben Yan is originally from Ningbo, China, a large seaport in the east coast of China, nearby Shanghai. He graduated from Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. Professor Yan is teaching Cryptography and Computer Security along with a network security course. “Security is really in the heart of everything around us in this digital world. I have worked in the security industry. I am a security enthusiast, and I love to talk to everyone about how to protect yourself in this digital world,” he said. His research is on protecting the network communications from cyber threats. He is also doing mobile apps security analysis with the goal of protecting mobile terminals from malware and privacy leakage. In his spare time, Professor Yan enjoys running, swimming, cycling, climbing hills, and watching movies.
