Computer Scientist Position

The Information Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL/RI), Information Intelligence Systems & Analysis Division (RIE), Applied Analytics Branch (RIED), is seeking resumes to consider to fill a Computer Scientist position. AFRL is a basic and applied research laboratory that has been supporting the US Air Force for more than 60 years. The AFRL Information Directorate employs approximately 750 scientists and engineers, and is the Air Force's center of expertise for R&D of command, control, communications, computers, intelligence (C4I) technologies. Work is conducted across a broad spectrum of technologies in areas such as information fusion, communications, modeling and simulation, and high performance and intelligence information systems.

Qualified applicants must satisfy the individual occupational requirements defined at https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/1500/computer-science-series-1550/. These include but are not limited to a bachelor's degree in computer science or a bachelor's degree with at least 30 semester hours in combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics covering processes and integral calculus. Additionally, all academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

At a minimum, applicants should be proficient in object oriented programming with expertise in C++ or Java, and have past experience with algorithm development/implementation. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience prototyping graphical user interfaces, creating data visualizations using D3 or other web based languages, using distributed computing technology such as Hadoop or Apache Spark, and building/using relational databases. Finally, ideal candidates should have a history of self-motivation, public speaking, leadership, and collaborative team work.
