CSE Welcomes: Dr. Chris Bourke

A Husker native, Dr. Bourke earned his both his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science & Mathematics and his PhD in Computer Science here at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He also holds a minor in Japanese & Asian Studies.

As a UNL student, Dr. Bourke assisted with research in Computational Complexity Theory and Machine Learning while under the supervision of Dr. Variyam. Dr. Bourke has collaborated on various journal articles on the subject, and it is the focus of his research studies.

Dr. Bourke then took his expertise to Werner Enterprises in Omaha, before he was recruited back to UNL. Thus, like many other CSE faculty, Dr. Bourke brings both industry and academic experiences to the classroom and his lectures.

Dr. Bourke’s research and work experience have earned many honors and awards, including:

• The Hazel V. Emley Fellowship in 2007 through 2008
• The National Science Foundation Award in 2006
• UNL’s Outstanding Graduate Teacher Award in 2006
• The Eastman Memorial Scholarship in the UNL Mathematics Department in 2001
• The Bridging Scholarship from The Association of Teachers of Japanese in 2000
