Bessey Professor Sebastian Elbaum has been named a Distinguished Scientist by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
Elbaum has received this distinction for his contributions in the areas of program testing and analysis. His areas of research have primarily focused on improvement of system dependability through testing, monitoring, and analyzing.
“It feels good to be recognized,” Elbaum said. “I’m in good company with people I respect a lot.”
Elbaum is one of 45 scientists to be named to the 2016 list. Distinguished Scientists must meet certain ACM membership and professional criteria and must also have made significant accomplishments within their fields.
Professor Elbaum began teaching at UNL in 1999. Since then he has been named a UNL Bessey Professor and has won numerous awards including the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. He has also published 25 journal articles and presented 58 conference papers. In addition to his research, Elbaum has co-founded two computing labs, E2 Lab and the NIMBUS Lab, as well as the EUSES Consortium to support end user programmers. Elbaum is also known for his dedication to mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
