NATM Conference features 'Making Math Moments that Matter'

NATM schedule

The 2019 Nebraska Association of Teachers of Mathematics Conference will feature Jon Orr as the math keynote speaker. His talk, "Making Math Moments that Matter," will discuss what makes a memorable math moment. Is it a real world task? Is it relevant to your students? Is it media-rich or delivered in 3 acts?

While many professional development sessions focus on a specific component of an effective math lesson, Jon Orr will model what he believes to be the three key components of an effective mathematics lesson: sparking student curiosity, fueling their sense-making and igniting your next steps. Join Jon as he leads a task to break each component down and then builds it all back up to create a memorable math moment.

Orr is a high school math teacher at John McGregor Secondary School in the Lambton-Kent District School Board in Ontario, Canada. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator and Desmos Fellow and routinely talks about implementing technology and great teaching strategies in his classroom.

Registration is now open. Early bird registration of $120 ends on Sept. 13. After that date, the cost goes up to $150. This registration fee includes conference and a 1-year membership in NAS/NATS and NATM. Click here to register: https://nebraskaacademyofsciences.wildapricot.org/event-3405977
