The 33rd Nebraska Math Day bowl tournament and PROBE II will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022, hosted by the Department of Mathematics. PROBE I will be taken at individual schools in advance of the in-person event on campus on Nov. 17. The date for the exam is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2022.
Nebraska high schools are invited to join us for a day of fast-paced mathematics. Math Day is designed for students in grades 9, 10, 11 and 12 and for exceptional students in lower grades. Teachers who would like to invite students from lower grades to participate must request and receive written permission from Nebraska Math Day. Homeschooled students are also welcome to attend but will need to contact us for a registration code. Contact us at mathday@unl.edu. Registration will open in September.
Bowl team students, PROBE 2 qualifiers, and any additional students who would like to attend hands-on activities and see faculty presentations on their research, can be registered by their teachers for the Nov. 17 event. Note: We will be following Lancaster County health guidelines so if the event cannot exceed 500 people, we will limit participation to the bowl team members, PROBE II qualifiers, and teachers/chaperones.
Pricing
There is no cost for students to take the PROBE I exam at their schools on Oct. 26, 2022. A bowl team, which includes eight students and up to two teachers, costs $100. If you would like to bring more than 8 students, the registration fee is $10 per student. These additional students will be eligible to take PROBE II and attend the hands-on activities during Math Day but they cannot be a bowl team member or an alternate bowl team member.
Bowl teams will be entered on a first-come, first-served basis in each of the two classes until we reach 24 teams in each class. Each school will be allowed one bowl team. If we cannot fill the 48 slots, we will contact schools about entering a second team. Each bowl team will be guaranteed five rounds on Math Day.
If your school needs travel support in order to attend Math Day, we will provide stipends for schools that are more than 75 miles away (one way) from Lincoln.
