Join NSEC and ARIS for a conversation on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine's (NASEM's) new Call to Action for Science Education and their recommendations. NASEM is engaging a variety of science stakeholders to better understand how we might enact the vision of a K-16 ecosystem and regional approach to advancing science education.
Date and Time: Monday, November 1 at 11:00 am -12:30 pm PT | 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm MT | 1:00 pm - 2:30pm CT | 2:00-3:30 pm ET
Kerry Brenner, Senior Program Officer, Board on Science Education, NASEM, will provide an overview of the recommendations. We will then move into breakout rooms with a mix of centers in the ARIS and NSEC communities to discuss:
- The role of centers and the ways we might leverage this call to action on our campuses to advance the mission of our centers.
- Drawing on the expertise of centers to provide feedback to NASEM, what are the gaps, opportunities, and resources needed to take a regional and national approach to advance STEM education.
Speakers:
- Kacy Redd, Associate Vice President, Research and STEM Education and co-director of the Network of STEM Education Centers (NSEC) at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU)
- Amy D. Pratt, Assistant Dean for Community Education Partnerships, School of Education and Social Policy, Northwestern University and member of the leadership team for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS).
- Matthew M. Johnson, Associate Professor of Education, Center for Science and the Schools, Penn State College of Education and member of the leadership team for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS).
