At SXSW 2022, Sethuraman Panchanathan, the Director of the National Science Foundation, announced a new NSF directorate, the first in 30 years. The Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships, TIP, will focus on technology breakthroughs to answer the toughest challenges, including climate change. TIP will scale use-inspired research and accelerate the translation of results into real-world impact. It will expand the geography of innovation, STEM talent and ideas from places and people across the U.S.
Recognizing NSF leadership on national priorities like climate change, the Administration's Fiscal Year 2023 NSF budget request to Congress is $10.5 billion. This investment, 18.3% over FY 2022, would help NSF keep delivering on its historic mission, while taking strides toward the 2022-2026 strategic vision for a nation that leads the world in science and engineering research and innovation, to the benefit of all, without barriers to participation.
