This afternoon, Mojtaba Khajeloo will share his research into using concept maps to delve into student understanding of causal patterns in systems.
Title
Concept map as a tool to assess and enhance students’ system thinking skills
Abstract
Concept maps (CM) are frequently used in systems education, primarily to depict students' understanding of system components and their organization. Their potential as tools to examine and enhance students’ grasp of the inherent causal mechanisms in complex systems is often overlooked. In this presentation, using a theoretical framework of causal patterns, I will introduce what CMs reveal about students’ knowledge of causal patterns in systems, while also addressing their shortcomings in illustrating system complexities.
