Of Mice and Messaging: Bridging Restoration Ecology and Science Communication Education to Enhance Conservation

In “Of Mice and Messaging: Bridging Restoration Ecology and Science Communication Education to Enhance Conservation,” Dr. Erin Rowland-Schaefer explores how effective communication is key to successful conservation. Through two complementary studies—a long-term small mammal monitoring project in a restored tallgrass prairie and a national survey of undergraduate biology students—she examines how ecological research and science communication training can work hand-in-hand. Her work highlights both the ecological insights gained from field research on species like mice and voles and the educational strategies needed to prepare future conservation scientists to engage meaningfully with communities and landowners.
