Title:
Honors: a potentially under-utilized resource for DBER
Abstract:
Honors educational opportunities are widely available at colleges and universities. While Honors education takes different forms, most programs work with high ability students as indicated by high-school ACT scores, GPA and class standing. In this talk, I will (i) describe current practices and course structures currently used by Honors at UNL, (ii) preview changes to be deployed in the near future, (iii) review practices used at other institutions that may be transferrable to UNL, and (iv) highlight a number of potential research directions that this demographic and the UNL Honors program could provide to DBER. Additionally, DBER could provide Honors with a mechanism to evaluate the effectiveness of our educational program.
