This afternoon (2/28), Citlally Jimenez, a PhD student with the School of Natural Resources, will share her research on developing frameworks to describe students' use of evidence.
abstract:
A unique, multidisciplinary, large enrollment science literacy class at UNL uses a structured decision-making tool (DMT) that encourages students to critically analyze various sources of information, evaluate multiple solutions, and make informed-quality decisions. Our research explores how students interpret and apply information in their decision-making over current socio-environmental issues in Nebraska using the DMT. We developed a qualitative framework that describes students’ levels of proficiency in 1) providing reasoning and 2) interpreting and applying information to their reasoning about the consequences of a potential solution for an environmental issue.
