Join us Thursday (Sept. 19) for #LINKBASH, a party to celebrate the Link and its service to the College of Engineering and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln community before the 35-year-old facility is demolished as part of the college’s expansion project.
The celebration begins at 5 p.m. when the college and Hausmann Construction will unearth a time capsule – buried outside the Link near the northwest corner of Scott Engineering Center in 1987 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Engineering Week.
The capsule was scheduled to be opened 50 years later, but must be moved to facilitate the demolition of the Link and construction of the new building. After the time capsule is unearthed, it will be displayed in the college and then reburied once construction is completed, until its scheduled opening in 2037.
Pizza and drinks will be served at 5:45 p.m. and the Link Bash will begin around 6:15 p.m. Participants will be allowed to enter the two levels of the link to play laser tag and to use colored powders, non-toxic paint and party poppers to decorate the facility. Participants should note that these activities could get messy and are asked to wear appropriate clothing.
There will also be a photo booth and props for you to commemorate this event.
Use #LINKBASH on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to join in the celebration by following the Nebraska Engineering coverage of the event and by sharing your photos and memories of the Link.
