Nebraska Engineering students, it’s great to see you. Some of you I just met at N.U.B.E. Camp recently, and others--I’m happy to say--are familiar faces. I hope you’ve had a wonderful summer and are ready for a productive academic year ahead.
This summer our college has renovated several student spaces, including the study area outside the Engineering Library in Lincoln and areas of the Peter Kiewit Institute in Omaha. I encourage you to make good use of these enhancements.
You’ll find this coming year infused with more emphasis on one of our fundamental themes: “We will engage and partner with our constituent communities.” You are an important community for the college, and so is the community of Nebraska businesses who look to employ you when you graduate. That’s why we invited leaders from Nebraska businesses to be part of N.U.B.E. Camp this year, and why this fall our freshmen will travel to Columbus and tour companies as an expanded learning community experience.
Our college aims to better develop our students’ leadership and entrepreneurial skills, as well as engineering expertise; these efforts should equip you for important career roles ahead—as not only engineering practitioners but also as leaders in engineering and beyond. As Nebraska Innovation Campus advances, we plan to connect you there as well.
If you have input on how this college can provide further valuable learning opportunities, please engage with the Engineering Student Advisory Board. I look forward to the outstanding accomplishments our college can achieve this year.
