Graduating seniors can still join The Order of the Engineer

If you are a graduating senior and missed signing up for The Order of the Engineer, on either campus, you can still join. For more information, contact either Dr. Carl Nelson (cnelson5@unl.edu or 402-472-4128) or Karen Coen-Brown (kcoenbrown3@unl.edu or 402-472-4507).

On Lincoln City Campus, an initiation ceremony is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 4:30 p.m. in Othmer 105. A ceremony on the Omaha campus is planned for Friday, Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m. That location has not yet been determined.

Omaha students who join before the initiation ceremony should contact Derek Favara at dfavara@unomaha.edu with contact information and to set up a time to have their pinky finger sized for the Order’s ring.

The Order of the Engineer is an association of engineers dedicated to the teaching, administration, or practice of their profession. To be initiated, you adhere to a professional creed and accept a stainless steel ring to be worn on the working hand. The obligation is voluntary and for life.

Construction management students are not eligible to join.

A one-time initiation fee for the Order of the Engineer is $20. Some proceeds support the Mathcounts program, which encourages sixth- through eighth-grade students to pursue math studies and careers in engineering.
