Looking for a program that will lead to a rewarding career in the health field? Majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders will lead you to careers in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology. This program will provide you with hands-on experience, research opportunities, and will put you on the track for professions that change lives.

The Communication Sciences and Disorders program is perfect for anyone looking for a rewarding career helping others. Communication Sciences and Disorders is a health-centered program that focuses on aspects of hearing, language, and speech while also providing students with stimulating educational, clinical, and research opportunities.

Housed primarily on East Campus, the Communication Sciences and Disorders program has several facilities and labs which provide students experiential learning and research opportunities. These facilities and labs range from the Barkley Speech-Language and Hearing Clinic, an operational clinic serving members of the community, to the Dizziness and Balance Disorder Lab, a facility that explores how hearing affects, and how clients can manage, dizziness and balance. The clinics and labs provide students with ample opportunities to connect with faculty and conduct research.

Graduates of this program go on to earn either their master’s in Speech-Language Pathology or their Ph.D. in Audiology. Speech-Language Pathology is a two-year master’s program that prepares students to work in nursing homes, school districts, or private clinics and assist patients with speech, language, and communication-related disorders. A doctorate in Audiology is a three-year program that focuses on hearing, dizziness, and balance. Audiology graduates will work primarily in a private clinic or hospital setting. Both graduate degrees can be earned at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
