Growing up, who was your favorite teacher? Did they introduce a topic to you that made you excited to learn? Were they a listening ear or someone who cheered you on? Learn more about the majors/programs the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) offer that lead to a meaningful career in teaching!
CEHS offers several majors that lead graduates to a variety of teaching roles. If you enjoy working with some of the youngest learners, consider a major in Inclusive Early Childhood Education. If you are interested in teaching within an elementary school setting, we have majors in Elementary, Elementary/Early Childhood, and Elementary/Special Education.
If you prefer working with high school aged students, you can major in one of our secondary programs. Secondary education programs provide you with course work in a specific subject area focused on what you will teach, common options here are Social Science, English, Math, and Science. Additional subject areas you might consider include World Languages, Business, Family Consumer Science, and Special Education. If you are interested in teaching middle school students, most scholars will pick a teaching major in secondary education.
Education majors have a specific course sequence leading to the degree completion. Additionally, there are courses that you need to enroll in early on during your time at UNL in order to be able to apply into the professional coursework. All of these are majors where grade point average (GPA) matters. If you are considering a career in education and feel that an opportunity to empower our youth is a fit for you, please know that it's never too early to meet with an advisor in CEHS.
