In the Environmental and Sustainability Studies (ENVR) Program, students and alumni come together to cultivate a vibrant community. In the spring of 2024, 214 former students, most of whom completed the program since 2008, responded to the 2024 ENVR Alumni Survey. The Alumni Survey explored the career paths of ENVR alumni, provide networking opportunities between current students and graduates, and gather ENVR-specific advice for undergraduates.
ENVR graduates tend to follow one of six career paths. These include For-Profit, Government, Non-Profit, Education, Other, and Graduate School. The largest group, For-Profit, comprises 39.8% of alumni and includes roles such as environmental consultants, greenhouse gas emissions data analysts, environmental scientists, planners, and more. Close behind, 28% of alumni work in government roles with employers such as the United States Forest Service, the U.S. Department of State, the Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The third-largest group, Non-Profit, represents a variety of organizations that promote conservation, education, and community resources supporting environmental sustainability in Nebraska and beyond.
ENVR students are encouraged to explore these resources as they consider their career options. As an interdisciplinary major, the ENVR program is committed to meeting the evolving needs of its students. With the insights gained from the Alumni Survey, current students will be better equipped to connect with careers aligned with their interests and find success after graduation.
