Once again, Nebraska Extension and UNL’s Office of Emergency Management are teaming up to ensure county Extension offices have plans in place for disasters and emergencies. The office emergency action plan (EAP) template for county offices and “frequently asked questions” will be available in early March; information will be sent to unit leaders and Engagement Zone Coordinators. The EAP template is being updated to reflect the new engagement zone model.

All counties are encouraged to develop a local plan. The effort may be coordinated by the unit leader or an assigned individual. Everyone in the office should be invited to provide input and become familiar with the plan. The time to complete a plan will vary depending on the office, but it is anticipated that 1-2 hours is sufficient. Putting together the plan’s attachments, like an office drawing or map, may require more time.

County offices are encouraged to complete their plans by Friday, April 3, sending plans and attachments to Ashley Mueller, ashley.mueller@unl.edu. County offices that already have a plan managed by their local emergency manager or other entity can send the current plan.

Counties that complete the office emergency action plan will receive an image/graphic to post in newsletters and on social media platforms.

Thirty county offices and the Dean’s office completed an office emergency plan last year. The 2019 initiative impact report can be viewed here: https://unl.box.com/s/1d6yt62jjew3gm601sfn75qwo7eh8zse
