FEMA announced today $10 million in competitive awards for its Fiscal Year 2019 Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program to eight local governments to assist in developing innovative regional solutions to issues related to catastrophic incidents.

The grant program plays an important role in the implementation of the National Preparedness System by supporting the building of core capabilities essential to achieving the National Preparedness Goal of a secure and resilient nation.

Delivering core capabilities requires the combined effort of the whole community, rather than the exclusive effort of any single organization or level of government.

The 2019 grants focus on planning, organization, training and exercises to build regional capabilities in FEMA’s Food, Water and Sheltering Community Lifeline.

The eight local governments were selected from 20 eligible applications. The projects selected are regional, replicable and sustainable after the grant period of performance ends. The selected projects are regional, replicable and must be sustained in subsequent years without federal resources.

Award recipients are Local Governments (as defined by 2 C.F.R. § 200.64) located within one of the 100 most populous Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) per the Census Bureau’s 2018 Population Estimates (as listed in the Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program Notice of Funding Opportunity in Appendix B: 100 Most Populous Metropolitan Statistical Areas [2018]).
