Geologist and Geophysicist Positions with the US Army Corps of Engineers
The US Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District is seeking applications for both a Geologist position and a Geophysicist position.
Geologist (GS-1350 - 07/09/11)
Degree Requirement: A degree that includes at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).
Job Information: As a geologist you will conduct geologic investigations and studies for a wide variety of projects and programs to include military construction, infrastructure (e.g., dams and levees) and environmental restoration and compliance. The Geology Section consists of both field and project geologists, as well as two full-time drill crews. The section develops geotechnical exploration programs, conducts field oversight, and prepares geological engineering and environmental compliance reports. The section is responsible for assessing the impacts of groundwater, site stratigraphy, and seismicity on district projects. This position will be a field geologist behind in-house drill rigs responsible for logging borings and the installation of instrumentation.
Geophysicist (GS-1313 - 07/09/11)
Degree Requirement: A degree that includes at least 30 semester hours in mathematics (including calculus) and the physical sciences (geophysics, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy, meteorology, electronics, etc.).
Job Information: Assists higher graded professional in accomplishing both field and office work assignments, i.e., geophysical, or geological investigations on military munitions, environmental, civil works, and military construction projects. Observes and performs the application of geophysical and geological techniques and procedures to address data needs on military munitions and geotechnical projects.
