Hello Geology Majors,

I hope you are doing well and that you were able to take a bit of a break over the Labor Day holiday weekend. Now that we are into the third week of the fall semester, it is time to look at what the rest of the semester will look like for you. You should know which classes are you going to be in for the rest of the semester, and you should have access to all of your course syllabi.

Most course syllabi have a schedule that the course will follow over the course of the semester. This schedule can be very specific, outlining the textbook sections to be covered in each lecture, or very non-specific, providing the dates of major exams and/or due dates for major projects. Either way, these schedules can give you a roadmap to the rest of your semester if you are willing to review your course syllabi and make the map. My recommendation would be to make a calendar (physical or virtual) where you can quickly reference important course dates for all of your courses. It will probably take you an hour or two to read through your course syllabi and copy down exam, project, quiz/assignments dates on to the calendar. I fully believe that this will be time well spent.

Your roadmap will show you when you will be very busy during the semester (i.e., the weeks when you have multiple exams and/or major projects) and when you will be less busy. This will help you manage your time better over the course of the semester, which should help with your overall success. I would be happy to help with your calendar if you need it, and I can give you suggestions for physical or virtual resources to us. So, please don't hesitate to reach out to me about it.

Academic Probation Students
Now is an excellent time to start working on your additional requirements if you find yourself on Academic Probation Level 1 or 2 for the Fall 2022 semester. In order to use your Priority Registration for Spring 2023 time, you are going to need to complete your Probation Self-Assessment form (found in MyRed within your To-Do Items in the Message Center on the left side). Then, you will need to be meet with me, and depending your situation, we might have a plan for you to complete. This will take some time, and you need to have everything complete before I can lift your hold on Spring 2023 semester enrollment. Priority Registration for Spring 2023 starts on Monday, October 28th, and I know that the time will pass quickly. You have already received a few emails about Academic Probation from the University and the College, so please plan to take action soon!
