TEACHING SUPPORT

  • Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL)
The CIRTL mission is to enhance excellence in undergraduate education through the development of TAs/faculty and diverse teaching strategies.
  • Teaching Development Program
This program allows TAs to focus on and document their teaching development efforts. We observe a class session and collect feedback from students, then discuss the results and strategies for improvement.
  • Institute for International Teaching Assistants
Every year, the Office of Graduate Studies holds a 2-week institute to prepare international teaching assistants for teaching in an American classroom.
  • Preparing Future Faculty Program
Advanced doctoral students interested in pursuing a faculty position learn about faculty roles and responsibilities and gain direct knowledge of the diversity of higher education institutions through a structured mentoring experience with partner institution mentors. Runs from summer to fall.

RESEARCH SUPPORT

  • Nebraska Research Days
Graduate students present their research at the annual poster session and compete for travel awards. We also offer workshops about opportunities and resources to support research activities.
  • Mentoring
A handbook on mentoring to help you effectively mentor and be a successful mentee is available online.
  • Fellowship and Grant Writing Consultations
If you are working on an NSF GRFP application or another fellowship or grant application you can submit it for feedback.
  • Travel Grants
The Graduate Student Travel Award will provide support for student travel to present at professional conferences as well as student travel for work directly related to dissertation/thesis projects.

CAREER AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Consultations
Before you submit your job application materials, take advantage of our consultation services. We review documents including resume/CV, cover letter, teaching statement, and diversity statement.
