The Association of Women in Science (AWIS) will cohost Women in Research Day via Zoom on November 5, 2020 with a series of events listed below. Women in research are encouraged to share why they do research at Nebraska for use on social media throughout Research Days.
9:30 a.m.
AWIS is sponsoring an awards and recognition workshop to learn about institutional resources available to help faculty pursue external honors important in their fields and disciplines. Participants will hear from a panel of faculty who have been involved in the awards process as nominators and/or nominees. Registration is required.
Panelists are:
- Dawn O. Braithwaite, Willa Cather Professor of Communication Studies;
- Eileen Hebets, Charles Bessey Professor of Biological Sciences;
- Martha Mamo, department head and John E. Weaver Professor of Agronomy and Horticulture; and
- Lily Wang, associate dean for faculty and inclusion, College of Engineering.
Keynote presentation “Celebrating Women in Science,” by Ellen Ochoa, the first Latina in space. Ochoa is the second female director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, where she led the human space flight enterprise for the nation from 2013-2018. Registration is required.

AWIS Virtual Social Bingo: Each participant will get a bingo card and the challenge to call out bingo through making connections with fellow faculty, staff and students in research and STEM fields. Fill your bingo card and win a prize! Registration is required.
