Spring 2021 Graduate Assistantship: Residence Life

General Description
The Assistant Residence Director (ARD) is part of the Residence Life professional staff team, partially responsible for Residence Life functions in Kauffman Academic Residential Center. The ARD is a half-time role (19.6 hours/week). Due to the nature of this position, it is required that the ARD live on campus in university-provided housing.

In conjunction with the Senior Residence Director for Selleck & Kauffman (SRD) and the Residence Life Services Supervisor (RLSS), the ARD assists with hall operations, student staff supervision, hall government advising, room administration, and other duties as assigned. In doing so, the ARD is expected to work with residents and student staff to implement a student-centered philosophy throughout all aspects their work through the implementation of the residential curriculum. The ARD reports directly to the SRD, who provides overall complex leadership, management, and supervisory functions for the Residence Life staff.

This position reports directly to the Senior Residence Director for Selleck & Kauffman, supervises assigned Resident Assistant staff members, advises the assigned hall government organizations, develops liaison relationships with other personnel within Residence Life and University Housing.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • The ARD must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student (9 credits per semester) at UNL during their employment and be actively working towards a completion of a degree.
  • One year of Residence Hall experience preferred.
  • Previous knowledge of and/or experiencing implementing a residential curriculum at the undergraduate student staff level preferred.
  • Knowledge of counseling and student development.
Core competencies include effective leadership, counseling/advising, communication, and other expected core competences such as teamwork, professionalism, interpersonal skills, and critical thinking.

Core responsibilities include intentional student engagement and education, emergency preparedness, budget, administrative skills, and collateral duties.

Salary, Benefits, and Term of Appointment
This is a half time (19.6 hours/week) live-in required position. A student must be enrolled in a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Graduate Program and meeting the requirements of a full-time student.

An air-conditioned fully furnished apartment in Kauffman Academic Residential Center and a meal plan (when the University food service is in operation) is provided.
The salary for the 2020-21 school year is approximately $1460 a month (this number may increase depending on Board of Regents guidelines) and 12 credit hours tuition for each semester worked.

Anticipated start date: January 4, 2021; Anticipated end date: May 15, 2021.
