Join the dynamic team identifying, evaluating, protecting, marketing, and licensing UNL intellectual property. As an intern, you’ll gain valuable hands-on experience screening new invention disclosures, building the business case for technology commercialization, and helping move technologies from the lab to the marketplace.

Commercialization Analyst Internship Information

NUtech Ventures is the intellectual property and commercialization affiliate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. NUtech’s mission is to facilitate the commercialization and practical use of innovations generated through the research activities at the University of Nebraska. We do this by identifying, evaluating, protecting, marketing, and licensing UNL intellectual property to promote economic development and improve quality of life.

Commercialization Analyst Interns (CAIs) participate in many aspects of the technology commercialization process, with a focus on screening new disclosures and building the business case for the commercialization of a technology.

Skills Required:
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Advanced internet research capabilities
  • Analytical skills and the ability to learn technologies quickly
  • Background in Life Sciences, Engineering, or Physical Science
Skills Preferred:
  • Basic knowledge of intellectual property rights and protection methods
  • Basic knowledge of commercialization/industry and marketing
Duties:
  • Screening technologies
  • Interviewing inventors
  • Performing IP prior art research
  • Undertaking market and industry analysis projects
  • Recommending marketing strategies
  • Presenting assessment findings
  • Conducting ad-hoc projects in marketing and licensing
Time Commitment:
  • ~20 to 35 hours/week during the summer
  • ~6-10 hours/week during the academic year
Pay Rate:
  • $15/hour with the opportunity to earn up to $16/hour after a review period
