First Generation Nebraska will host a reading club for University of Nebraska–Lincoln faculty and staff who are interested in connecting with and supporting first-generation students.

The First Generation Nebraska Reading Club is a forum dedicated to making our campus more “first generation friendly” by engaging in current conversations centered around students who are first in their family to go to college. Throughout the 2022-2023 academic year, members of the club will read an article or book chapter each month, then meet for an hour online to discuss the material in the context of their own work on campus. Those involved in the reading club will have opportunities to participate in and extend the conversation through the group’s Canvas discussion board space.

Join this fall as the group explore topics such as:

  • helping students master academia’s hidden curriculum
  • understanding first-gen students’ experiences in using campus resources
  • integrating student supports across campus.
The reading club is open to any faculty or staff employee interested in learning how to better include and offer support to first-generation students. For more information and to register, follow the link below. A Canvas invitation will be emailed to all registrants.
