TEAC 936, Seminar in College Teaching: Developing a Learning-Centric Humanizing Praxis will be offered Spring 2024 by Dr. Kara Viesca, Professor of Teaching, Learning and Teacher Education. It is open to all doctoral students from all disciplines across campus and is especially valuable for current and future GTAs.
Those who take the course will construct their own answer to the essential question, "How will I develop a learning-centric humanizing praxis in my college teaching? by exploring and applying theories and research relevant to humanizing praxis (e.g., related to teaching, learning, development, trauma, oppression, complexity, decolonization, abolition, etc.). In order to accomplish this, the course will be run as a model of learning-centric humanizing praxis. We will examine theory and empirical research related to learning-centric, humanizing praxis as well as practice applying the ideas we learn about through co-teaching within the course. By the end of the course, each participant will have a fully developed syllabus with teaching plans in order to be able to implement their own learning-centric humanizing praxis in a course they are either currently teaching or will/hope to teach in the future.
