The program supports alliances of colleges and universities that implement comprehensive strategies to promote student success, retention, and graduation in STEM fields.
LSAMP provides funding for various types of projects, including:
- Alliance Development Grants for establishing new alliances.
- Bridge-to-the-Baccalaureate alliances that facilitate transfer of minority students to four-year institutions for STEM degrees.
- STEM Pathways Implementation-Only alliances focused on increasing STEM baccalaureate degrees for minority students.
- STEM Pathways Research Alliances for well-established alliances to serve as models of excellence and produce research on broadening participation.
- Bridge to STEM Graduate Degrees in National Priorities, supporting cohorts of master's or doctoral students in STEM priority areas.
- STEM Networking Incentives and Engagement projects to encourage participation of minority students in STEM networks.
Through these initiatives, LSAMP aims to diversify the nation's STEM workforce by providing financial support, academic resources, and research opportunities to students from underrepresented groups, including Black, Hispanic, American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander populations.
