Immigrant and refugee students encounter many challenges when entering our schools. While we aim at helping these students develop their languages and succeed academically, their socio-cultural transition and emotional health impact the degree to which students can attend to leaning and be successful. Dr. Nguyen will compare the experiences of immigrants and refugees and discuss their challenges in transitioning to the new schooling context. Possible ways of supporting the social transition of immigrant and refugee students will be explored.
