ISSO Graduate Assistant

The International Student and Scholar Office (ISSO) is hiring a graduate assistant for the 21-22 academic year with the possibility for renewal. ISSO provides support and services to international students and scholars at UNL through immigration advising as well as through programming and services that foster international students and scholars’ integration at Nebraska.

The graduate assistant in ISSO will be responsible for:

Programming and Event Planning:

  • Develop and implement social, cultural, and informational programs for UNL international student and scholar population
  • Assist with the development and implementation of programs and activities for welcoming and integrating international students in the campus community: program selection, planning and marketing, workshop planning and delivery, campus orientations/open houses, and outreach to the multicultural student organizations
  • Assist with the development and implementation of programming for International Education Week and other special occasions
  • Plan, schedule, and organize student activities, trips, and events
Social Media:
  • Maintain social media content calendar and post scheduling
  • Update and assist with social media marketing and publications for programs and events
  • Assist in creating and distributing weekly newsletter
  • Create event graphics using platforms like Canva, Facebook events, and Instagram posts
Supervision of the International Welcome Team
The International Welcome Team is a shared group of student workers within ISSO, NSE, and Housing and are an active Registered Student Organization on campus.
  • Work with professional staff to supervise assignments for IWT
  • Create the office schedule each semester
  • Assist in the maintenance of the IWT RSO including re-validation each year, elections, and assisting the treasurer with managing the RSO funds
Other Duties
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Provide support for pre-arrival immigration activities: create and revise pre-arrival information materials; organize new student files and documentation
  • Create and distribute surveys and questionnaires as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned
Implementing Support Initiatives for Various Populations
  • Brainstorming and developing support and resources for specific populations such as international graduate students, sponsored students, etc.

Required Qualifications:
Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNL graduate program
Must be enrolled in at least 9 graduate credits each semester of assistantship

Preferred Qualifications:
Interest in international education
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of students
Social media skills including Facebook, Instagram, and others
Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
Time management skills
Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new technology
Leadership experience
Creativity, high energy, strong work ethic, and professionalism

Husker Hub Peer Specialist

Description: Husker Hub is looking to add some new student Peer Specialists to our team!

Daily duties:
  • Assist students with their questions about class registration, transcripts, student bills, FAFSA, scholarships, grants, student loans, and work study
  • Answer inbound calls, respond to emails, and answer student questions at front desk of Husker Hub
  • Provide seasonal information to parents and students
  • Check in visiting students and families at front desk
  • Individual projects as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Federal Work Study eligibility preferred
  • Must be a current or incoming UNL student
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Desire to help people
  • Prior customer service experience in a fast-paced environment preferred
Hours:
  • Students should have availability to work at least 15-20 hours per week.
  • Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:45am-5:15pm
