The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion has new learning groups this semester!
Nebraska Community of Learners — Understanding Diversity through Education (NCLUDE), is “a collaborative community for students, faculty, staff, alums, and the greater community to engage in candid conversations and partake in educational opportunities surrounding the importance and awareness of inclusive excellence in our everyday lives,” per ODI’s website.
Along with ISSO, NClude allows students to get together to speak on diverse topics specific to marginalized groups and allies. The learning groups help foster conversations ranging from international support to mental health — along with conversations about accountability and how to handle uncomfortable conversations. Along with support, NClude helps strengthen connections and allows for there to be a voice for students who want to talk about the many topics that come with being at university.
This Fall, NClude has a slate of 29 learning groups that will be headed by one or two revered individuals from the community. Some groups include, “Curious Conversations in Divided Times,” “Everyday Resistance Against Sytems of Oppression,” and “Mental Health in Higher Education.”
Each of the learning groups meet six times over the semester, and will have a maximum number of 12 members per small group. Members may include undergrad and grad students, post-docs, faculty, alumni, staff and community leaders.
The last day to register for NClude learning groups is Aug. 30th: https://diversity.unl.edu/join-nclude-learning-group
