It is officially cold. As everyone embraces the leaves changing, pumpkin spiced lattes and cardigan weather, students are also gearing up for the holidays and with that — the end of the Fall semester. The idea of getting a break from studies is becoming a close and exciting reality, as well as possibly getting to go home and visit family and loved ones over the winter break season.
For international students, it is important to prepare early, before traveling outside of the U.S., to make sure you return to UNL for the Spring semester as safely as possible.
- Secure a travel signature from ISSO: Your travel signature from ISSO is valid for 6 months, so make sure you still have a valid I-20 when you leave so you can come back in January with no issues. You can request a travel signature on ISSO’s website.
- Along with your travel signature obtained from ISSO on your I-20, bring along with you your PASSPORT.
- Not required, but recommended that you bring financial documentation or support.
- Not required, but recommended that you bring copies of your transcripts from every semester that you have been enrolled at UNL.
- If you are traveling domestically, make sure you have your passport and I-20 with you.
When planning to travel, make sure to build in extra time when booking flights, as the holidays are busy times, and everyone is traveling. You want to have enough time to clear immigration, so get to the airport early!
With the weather changing, and snow possibly approaching, make sure to stay safe on the roads during inclement weather. If you are driving, make sure to be comfortable on the road, and do not drive if you don’t feel comfortable on the road, or handling snow and possibly ice. The National Traffic Safety Administration and AAA websites have tools to keep you informed about keeping safe on the roads in the winter.
