Podcast Production Internship - Curious City/Chicago Public Media (Chicago, IL)

Curious City is a people-powered news-gathering project designed to answer questions the public asks about Chicago, the region and the people who live here. Every week, we broadcast a radio story, publish a podcast and a web version.

With mentoring from the team’s audio producer and editor, you will research stories, practice recording field audio, assist in conducting in-studio interviews, help direct vocal performances, mix audio and learn to write and edit audio scripts. You will also develop career-building skills in conceiving, critiquing and editing audio stories and related multimedia packages. By the end of the term, you will have produced feature work to use in their portfolio. Past interns have answered questions about the history of House Music and shed light on what can actually be recycled in Chicago.

* Application deadline is: Friday November 1, 2019.

To apply you need:
> A desire to learn more about the history of Chicago and the region
> To have majored in journalism, media, communications or equivalent experience

> Excitement for learning about audio as a storytelling medium
> Demonstrated journalism, multimedia, or audio production experience in a previous internship, class work, supervised community work, or employment

How We Select Interns:
Our intern selection process is structured to gauge your writing and news judgment. The first round is us reading through cover letters and resumes. The second round is an interview with our selection committee, where we ask you to give story pitches and feedback about some of our programming . If you are second-round candidate, interviews will either be in person or via video chat if you are out of town.

Don’t Forget Your Cover Letter!
Cover letters help us learn a little bit about you, and what you hope to get out of an internship. It also gives us a sample of your writing style. Your cover letter should tell us why you want to pursue a career in journalism and media. We want to learn about your career goals and what type of skills you want to learn or strengthen in an internship. Want to make your cover letter really stand out? Include links to your portfolio or links to any news writing samples, podcasts, or story packages you may have done.

* Applications without a cover letter will not be accepted.
