The Virginian-Pilot is seeking interns for summer 2020 to work in our newsrooms. Interns can work throughout our company, from The Pilot in Norfolk to the Daily Press in Newport News to the Virginia Gazette in Williamsburg, or other publications from the Outer Banks to Richmond.
The Pilot is the largest newspaper in Virginia, and our newsrooms feature award-winning journalists eager to help you learn. Our coverage area includes many cities, miles of beaches, America’s largest Navy base and more.
Interns are treated as regular newsroom staff members, learning on the job and helping to produce Virginia’s best news coverage. This is a year-round program, and we pay our interns.
You will be assigned an editor and will participate in team meetings and brown bag programs on topical subjects. Past sessions have included journalism values, self-editing, how to read a financial report, investigative reporting and social media uses.
Most internships take place during the summer when several 12-week internships are spread among these categories: reporting, videography/photography and our Audience team.
