Description: Position Summary:
The visual production assistant will assist in the production of regular photo, video and audio content for KPCC.org, the award-winning website for the Southern California Public Radio. As part of the digital team, the assistant will produce daily photo slideshows, record radio-quality audio in the field. In addition, the production assistant will assist and train reporters in photo tools and technique and help in building KPCC’s brand by regularly updating our social media accounts with new videos. Past experience with editing is a must.
This part time paid position is for 24 hours each week.
In your resume please include a link to a portfolio that includes both photography and video. Links to previous audio work is a plus.
Position Responsibility:
• Uploads photos and videos on regular basis to KPCC social media accoung and CMS
• Regularly gleans metrics from a variety of sources
• Reaches out to individual blogs for stories/ segments/ videos of particular interest for particular videos
• Goes out on regular assignment to shoot photos and record audio on deadline
• Assists in photo (iPhone and dSLR) and video (Vixia) training for KPCC radio and digital reporters
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
• Advanced knowledge of dSLR cameras - both photo and video
• Ability to edit using Final Cut Pro
• Understanding of audio recording
• Experience or education in journalism
• Ability to meet deadlines as assigned
• Strong writing, editing, research & communication skills
• Knowledge of digital photo editing technologies
• Working knowledge of current affairs
• Ability to manage several different projects at once
• Good time management skills
• Familiarity with Photoshop, Lightroom & wire services
• Upbeat, constructive, 'can-do' attitude
Preferred Skills and Experience
• Familiarity with the values/sound of public radio
• Some experience working in a broadcast or newsroom environment
• Willing to think 'outside the box' of conventional journalistic style
