We are looking for a goal-oriented, self-starter who is interested in event planning and community involvement. The person must be able to work independently under guidance by the project managers to produce a community event focused on healthy living on September 9, 2012. Project is now underway, so immediate start is desirable.
The client is Streets Alive!, funded through the Community Health Endowment and part of Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln. It is a wonderful opportunity for a student to learn about developing strategies to meet client goals, collaborative problem-solving, working under tight deadlines, planning and execution of PR strategies, working with people from diverse backgrounds as well as applying basic public relations principals to meet project goals.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in community issues, healthy living or health promotion. The intern must have own transportation, cell phone and laptop computer. Competency in Microsoft Office applications and social media a must. Hours are flexible, but preference is given to those who can commit to a regular daytime schedule. No weekends except for the date of the event. Hours are approximately 5 hours a week to start with additional hours possible as the event date gets closer.
Working conditions: Shared office environment in comfortable home office.
Duties include:
· Participation in committee meetings.
· Willingness to accept responsibility for assigned strategies.
· Excellent writing skills.
· Willingness to build relationships with media and others to meet project goals.
· Creative thinking that can enhance the project.
· Physical, on-the-ground activity such as assisting with vendors the day of the event.
A stipend is available upon satisfactory completion of the project.
