General Description
Nebraska Cattlemen, Inc. is seeking an individual to fill the position of Director of Communications. The Director of Communications will be responsible for the dissemination of pertinent cattle industry information within the objectives of Nebraska Cattlemen’s Strategic Plan. Please see attached job description for a summary of specific responsibilities.

Qualifications
Educational requirements for the Director of Communications include a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, communications, journalism or a related field. The successful candidate must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills. The successful candidate must have a firm understanding of all media including print, video, audio and digital. Agriculture experience (production, agribusiness, etc.) is beneficial but not required. The successful candidate must be a self-motivated team player with a ‘can do’ attitude.

General Information
The Director of Communications position will be headquartered in the Nebraska Cattlemen Lincoln office. The successful candidate must be willing to travel occasionally to meet with beef producers, industry service providers and public opinion influencers.

Position Description
Nebraska Cattlemen
Director of Communications
Reports to: Executive Vice President Employment

Status: Exempt

Position Responsibilities:
• Responsible for media relations for Nebraska Cattlemen (NC).
• Creates and disseminates press releases to media highlighting NC events, policies, strategies and other important association information. Cultivates and maintains positive relationships with media representatives in order to position NC as the voice for the Nebraska cattle industry. Creates and arranges for NC leadership media participation including time related interviews as well as frequent NC updates. Plans and implements issues management strategies.
• Responsible for the publication and distribution of the bi-monthly NC Insider.
• Communicates with NC leadership and staff to compile news information into an
e-mail template for distribution to NC members.
• Responsible for NC’s social media messaging including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
• Responsible for administration of the NC website.
• Maintains a user-friendly and attractive website including frequent updates and posting of relevant information using a Content Management System (CMS).
• Responsible for the publication and distribution of the monthly Beef Lovers newsletter.
• Compiles articles, recipes and other information into an e-mail template for
distribution to consumers of beef.
• Maintains the Beef Lovers membership database.
• Develops strategies to increase the circulation of the e-mail newsletter.
• Coordinates video recording of NC events which includes but not limited to the annual convention and midyear meeting.
• Cooperates with appropriate staff to market advertising opportunities on the NC website and in NC newsletters and e-mails.
• Serves as the staff liaison to a NC Committee and/or Council.
• Assists NC leadership and staff in the recruitment and retention of NC and NCBA members.
• Represents Nebraska Cattlemen in a professional manner at various local, state, and national
meetings, conventions, and other events, including formal presentations at such events, as
assigned by the Executive Vice President.
• Under the direction of the Executive Vice President, attends various industry meetings,
seminars, conferences and research symposia to keep abreast of new industry information,
research, and technology applicable to program development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
