LINCOLN YMCA BRAND MANAGEMENT INTERN

SUMMARY
This position is a unique opportunity for a college student to gain valuable experience managing a regional brand with national brand standards. He or she will provide support to the Executive Marketing Director maintaining brand strength and consistency through design, editing and production of marketing materials (both online and off).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Design marketing materials utilizing a set of preexisting national brand standards (logos, colors, images etc.)
• Brochures, program descriptions, fliers
• Print and online advertisements
• Website and social media imagery
• Proof read marketing materials for layout and content.
• Work alongside the Marketing Director to create a unique yet consistent “regional version” of the national brand.
• Receive and carry out instructions in a timely manner with minimal “check-in’s” or requests for updates.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
• Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• A self-starter who can accomplish tasks in a timely manner both inside and outside of the office.
• Knowledge of InDesign CS3, Photoshop, Microsoft Publisher and a medium for file sharing.
• Strong proofreading and grammar skills.
• Preferred but not required for application:
• Video editing skills including embedding music and voiceovers
• Photography skills (both taking pictures and editing/repurposing)
• Basic copywriting skills
• Knowledge of website and social media best practices
• Year-round availability (when school is in and out of session) in-office or remotely
• Ability to gain the knowledge necessary to possess a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission and values. Demonstrates this understanding through behavior and actions that support the purpose, mission and values.

This is an unpaid internship. Instead of compensation, there are other benefits:


A free membership to the YMCA throughout the course of their employment as an intern at the YMCA administrative offices (located in Fallbrook).
o This membership is valid at all Lincoln YMCA branches—including Downtown and Fallbrook.
o Fallbrook is a 7 minute drive from UNL’s main campus.

• A flexible 8 to 10 hour per week schedule with in-office and out-of-office work time (as deemed appropriate by the student and the Executive Marketing Director).

• “Real life” experience that will serve this student well regardless of their final career direction in marketing—working with and maintaining brand standards will be a part of almost every marketing, advertising or creative position in the field (agencies, in-house marketing, non-profit marketing, etc.)
