KOLN/KGIN-TV is accepting applications for a full-time Meteorologist/Video Journalist based in Lincoln.
We’re looking for a Meteorologist who also has the ability to work as a VideoJournalist, reporting, capturing and editing video as needed. Our Meteorologists are responsible for producing accurate weather forecasts and information to serve audiences on all of our platforms during regular coverage and/or emergency/severe weather situations. The successful candidate will also serve as a reporter, writing and producing news stories and anchoring liveshots. This position involves mature news judgment along with high levels of creativity, communication, language skills and professionalism. This position may include work on weekends, nights, early mornings and/or overnights
Weathercast producing/anchoring duties include, but are not limited to: Producing clear, accurate and visually appealing forecasts/information for newscasts, web and social media platforms using all available weather forecasting technology and graphics programs, anchoring assigned weathercasts and reports with good on-air presence, pleasant vocal delivery and the ability to comfortably ad lib comments as needed. Weathercasts must maintain a specific geographic focus and contain accurate, specific informational detail that clearly presents the weather story and forecasts for our coverage area. Meteorological expertise and knowledge of Nebraska/coverage area, with pronunciation accuracy required.
VideoJournalist duties include but are not limited to: News coverage responsibilities for all available media, knowledge of the community, story idea generation, live news coverage, reporting, interviewing, fact gathering, writing, attribution, video recording & editing, objectivity, story/topic research, stand-ups, driving, transporting equipment for news coverage, newscast writing/producing, typing, competence with various news gathering tools, ability to work with producers and follow directions of newscast director/s and producer/s on-air, personal integrity off-air with behavior reflecting positive character, ability and willingness to work beyond structured format and shifts as needed.
Qualifications include, but are not limited to: Professional meteorology and/or weathercasting experience for television and webcasts including graphics production and presentation, with understanding of basic forecasting and newsroom operations. Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, journalism or related field. Strong storytelling, writing and videography skills. Ability to report and to forecast weather accurately and creatively under deadline pressure. Demonstrated ability to work well with others and practice good hygiene & appearance. Ability to complete regular duties within regular work days/weeks without compromising quality. Ability to communicate professionally. Maintain a permanent residence within 30 minutes of the station and meet physical requirements of the position. A Valid driver’s license is required.
