Volunteer Student Journalists Wanted to Help College’s Diversity Reporter

Bobby Caina Calvan, the lead reporter for the diversity-oriented Heartland Project, is looking for volunteers to help with a multimedia package for the Lincoln Journal Star and other news outlets. He hopes to showcase Lincoln’s growing diversity by looking at how teens of different backgrounds experience proms — including the angst of finding a date, buying a dress, getting fitted for a tux and other preparations for the big night.
Volunteers will write vignettes brimming with color for publication in the Journal Star (and potentially other outlets).
Through these vignettes and accompanying video and photographs, we hope to capture the slice-of-life moments that add even more color to the pageantry of prom season .
If you’re interested in putting your journalistic skills to work, please contact Bobby as soon as possible, at bobbyc@heartlandproj.org.
A brainstorming and planning session will be convened soon.
