Special Project Writer, University of Nebraska Press

Needed this summer: A graduate student (journalism, history, or related area) to research and write a history of the University of Nebraska Press (UNP) and write profiles on six key UNP employees. The press history will be part of a book to celebrate our 75th anniversary. We estimate 25 book pages for the narrative history of the press, plus six profiles of former press employees (2–3 pages each).

Resources: We have a lot of articles about the press and a chronology of press events from the past 75 years; the student will have an outline to follow and examples of other university press histories to model for style and tone.

Student will need to interview our press director for background, one former press director (just retired) for his profile, and possibly a few other people to fill in some gaps. Student may also need to do a little library research and need to track down photographs of early press employees from the UNL photo archives.

Completion date and pay: Work needs to be completed by the end of August. Student’s name will be credited in the book’s acknowledgments.

We estimate the project will take approximately 100 hours.
Payment: a flat fee to be paid on completion.
