St. Joseph (Mo.) News-Press (daily print editions and online at newspressnow.com) is seeking to fill an immediate opening for a talented Page Designer/Copy Editor to join our universal copy desk. St. Joseph is a community of 80,000 located about 40 miles north of Kansas City, Mo. The newspaper serves 21 counties in Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas. Midwest candidates are strongly preferred.
The universal copy desk produces the main news section, local / regional news section, business pages, lifestyles section and sports section on a daily deadline. It also does design and editing for advance sections and special projects.
Responsibilities of the Page Designer / Copy Editor include story and photo selections (in partnership with the other editors), editing, headlines, page designs and production of the finished pages. We emphasize content that is compelling, relevant and valuable to our readers.
We prefer a four-year college degree in journalism, mass communications or English. We also prefer two or more years of professional experience, although college graduates with experience on a college newspaper and in internships will be considered. We seek a strong orientation to journalism and newspaper page design and copy editing; proficiency in spelling, grammar, punctuation and style; proficiency in the technical and creative aspects of newspaper page design (we use InDesign and Blox); and the ability to work on deadline.
Midwest candidates are strongly preferred. Employment is contingent on passage of a drug screening and background check.

News-Press TV, LLC a cluster of television stations that includes FOX, The CW, Telemundo and a 24/7 News and Weather channel in St. Joseph, MO, is accepting applications for a full-time Technical Director.
Responsibilities include; directing live newscasts and operating the audio/graphics board, recording programs and commercials from multiple sources, switching programs on-the-air, accurately logging of all broadcast materials, and performing other duties as needed.
Proficient computer skills are a must for this position, as is the ability to think, act, and work quickly, in a fast-paced environment. Average mobility and general dexterity are required as duties include making changes to studio lighting while on a ladder. Live news experience considered a plus. Candidate must pass a drug test and background check.
