University of Nebraska–Lincoln College of Journalism and Mass Communications broadcasting students placed third in the Broadcast Education Association’s 2016 Festival of Media Arts competition.
Juniors Tommy Rezac and Hunter Cave placed third in the Radio/TV Sports Event, Play-by-Play Talent category for their Nebraska-Minnesota football play-by-play.
Rezac of Valparaiso is the director of the KRNU Sports Staff and is a news and sports reporter and producer at KLIN-AM in Lincoln. He previously held an internship in the sports office of KLKN-TV in Lincoln. He’s involved in UNL’s chapter of the National Broadcasting Society, CoJMC Student Advisory Board, BTN Student U Productions and Newman Center Lectors and Readers.
Rezac also placed second in the 2016 Hearst Radio competition and will advance to the championships in San Francisco this June.
Cave of North Bend was a member of the KRNU Sports Staff and called several football and basketball games. He is also a William H. Thompson Scholar and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
Senior Brianne DeBose of Lincoln tied for third in the Video Animation/Experimental/Mixed Category for her Black Lives Matter video and poem. DeBose was one of the organizers of UNL’s Black Lives Matter event last fall. She was also part of the Capital City Underground capstone broadcast class, which produced a weekly show for a local cable channel.
